Halal Food Scanner ("we", "us") reads barcodes and ingredient labels through your phone's camera and tells you whether a product is halal, haram, or uncertain. This page explains what data the app collects, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Anonymous install ID
The app generates a random ID on your device the first time you open it. It isn't linked to your name, email, or any other account — there isn't one. It's the only identifier we use to group your activity, and it's what lets us tell "one person scanning a lot" apart from "many people scanning a little."
Scan activity
When you scan a product, we log a minimal event — your anonymous install ID, whether the scan succeeded, and which verdict was shown. We deliberately do not log the barcode, the product name, or the ingredient text itself in this activity log — that level of detail is data we don't need to answer "is the app working."
Report photos (optional)
If you tap "Report a mistake" and choose to attach a photo, that photo is uploaded to help us fix the underlying data. Report photos are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Label photos, while scanning
When the camera reads an ingredient label, the photo is processed by a third-party AI service to extract the ingredient text, then discarded — we don't keep a copy.
Analytics
We use an analytics service, hosted in the EU, to understand how the app is used — keyed to the same anonymous install ID described above, never to a name or account.
We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for ad targeting — the app has no ads.
Where your data goes
We share only what's needed with the service providers that help us run the app — hosting, barcode lookups, label processing, and analytics — and nothing beyond that.
Your choices
Your scan history lives on your device and clears if you delete the app. If you'd like your data removed from our servers, or to opt out of analytics, contact us below.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
